Mister Freedom® Jean Tote, NOS selvedge denim, made in USA.

Mister Freedom® JEAN TOTE, New Old Stock selvedge denim.
Made in USA.

If you are still requesting plastic bags from your local grocery store, like there’s not enough garbage in the ocean, consider this. Wouldn’t you rather get repeatedly complimented by impressed cashiers and handsome strangers on how cool your shopping bag is?…
When it comes to having a permanent tote that will gracefully age in the car trunk, the MF® Jean Tote is the bee’s knees.

Et tu Bora Bora?.. (Note: This photo taken in 2016 is not representative of the beautiful French Polynesia island.)

Our New Old Stock denim tote was initially designed for personal use, around the time California legislated on the banning of complimentary single-use plastic bags in grocery stores. Small batches were subsequently made available for purchase at the MF® HQ, and “Bazar” in Venice. Amusingly, it didn’t take too long for copy cats to get on it, and things went full circle when an unwitting tourist walked into “Bazar” in early 2016, carrying a knock-off specimen allegedly bought in Dubai… The lady was kind enough to let us take a photo ?

Knock-off of the MF® Jean Tote (2016).

So, there it is, officially released. The Mister Freedom® Jean Tote features a playful and simple design, is sturdy, practical, lightweight and stylish, and is not made by unpaid Turkish workers.

Sizes may vary according to the specific width of the NOS selvedge denim twill we use, but proportions are kept, for visual balance and functionality.
This batch is about 16’’ x 16’’ (not counting the webbing handles).

The hand-made debossed leather patches we use on these bags didn’t make it on our Californian Blue Jeans, due to heat-stamping imperfections, which won’t matter much after laundry. Some of these patches actually date back from our 2010 original Lot.54 Californian release!

The Mister Freedom® JEAN TOTE is designed and made in California, USA.

Tripper Type3 Mister Freedom 2013

Time for yet another updated version of our original denim ‘Tripper bag‘ we made in 2010, sold out for some time.
The pattern has not changed from the original Type 1 or Type 2 “Tripper”, but we have updated several elements such as the lining/webbing/trims…

We found a roll of selvedge New Old Stock camo twill, older but of uncertain origin, and decide to have a ‘Jungle’ version of our ‘Tripper’.
It will become very handy when flipped inside out and worn over your head, during an angry gorilla attack in the jungle. Stand still. You will notice that the charging primate, having lost all traces of you, usually loses interest. If not, swiftly remove the bag and retreat.

This limited edition “TRIPPER Bag, Type 3, Camo″ is ‘Mister Freedom® built’, right here in our Los Angeles atelier. In other words, designed and hand made in the USA.

Mister Freedom® “TRIPPER Bag”, Denim, Type 2
Made in USA

Time for an updated version of our original denim ‘Tripper bag‘ we made in 2010, sold out for some time.
The pattern has not changed from the original Type 1 “Tripper”, but we have updated several elements such as the lining/webbing/trims…

I have used mine pretty much everyday for about 2 years, and I’m quite attached to it. We like to make things that look better with age and wear, so my beat-up Type 1 bag now looks better than when new and raw, which is better than the other way around 😉
You know by now where I stand on factory distressed denim/garments, so I’ll spare you the usual rant. The TRIPPER only comes cold rinse/hang dry. Because of the starch in the denim fibers, the bag will feels stiff when new, but will break and soften-up gradually with use.
Basically, we do the easy part of putting it together, you take it from there and make it look nice 😉

For reference, the photo below is my Type-1, shot in April 2013.

Mister Freedom® Laptop Haversack, NOS selvedge denim

Denim Laptop Haversack ©2012 Mister Freedom®

Mister Freedom® Laptop Haversack, NOS denim

As you might know, we are so very Hi-Tech around here…
Our R&D department was given the mission by High Command to design a simple haversack to  carry interweb computing machines in the field. Mission accomplished.
In other words, we made a new bag.

Its versatile size (approx 15” x 10” x 1.5”) allows our MF® denim haversack to house an average laptop computer, if designed post 1975. MacBook Air®, MacBook Pro® 15”, iPad® etc… will slide in easily and go to sleep in a warm and soft corduroy inner lining. The strap is not adjustable, feature that is often an overkill on shoulder bags. A zip-up outer pocket will hold charger, USB, iPod and/or other supplies.
Our haversack is NOT shockproof, nor is it waterproof. So if you have an urge to boil it (?) make sure your computer is not inside. It’s perfect however to haul around or store your portable computer gear while about town or travelling.

We used assorted New Old Stock selvedge denim for the outer part. The 100% cotton corduroy lining is similar to that used as pocket ‘hand warmer’  lining on older 10 button USN Peacoats. The shoulder straps are made from US military webbing, a New Old Stock from 1966. The grey closure cotton woven canvas straps are recycled vintage military accoutrements parts. The zippers we used are vintage NOS 1960s-70s “Serval” metal zipper, with cotton HBT taping.
There are NO overlocked seams (the low road we always thrive not to take, which makes a bag construction somewhat of a challenging puzzle), all clean seams inside and out, with a concealed use of the denim selvedge.

Designed and manufactured in California by Mister Freedom®, in limited quantities, until NOS supplies last.
