The MF® “Musette” pattern was introduced sometime in 2011, and is our interpretation of the M1892 haversack issued to French troops from the late 1800’s to the mid 1930’s. These “bread bags” were mostly used for carrying provisions. Soldiers on the front lines frequently carried two, packed with a loaf of bread, saucisson, and the daily ration of Père Pinard (250ml in 1914, 500ml in 1916… and a full 1/4 galon bottle by 1918) to numb the gruesome reality…
Our 2011 model, the Musette “Biribi”, was initially released in NOS indigo stripe ticking. This updated 2019 “Biribi” Type II features the same shell fabric but an Olive Drab adjustable strap (Vietnam-era NOS US Mil-Specs OD cotton webbing) and matching flap facing (NOS OD cotton HBT).
To compliment our mfsc FW2019 “PIOUPIOU” capsule collection, we are also issuing a modified version in a dark navy blue waxed cotton canvas. We have added an inner dividing panel. The custom chainstitched “mf 7161” Musette adornment, embroidered on a vintage hand-cranked CORNELY machine, is a reference to French military wool blanket markings of the period. The flap is unlined but is backed by a large blank cotton muslin patch, ready for personal markings.
The adjustable shoulder strap is cut from Vietnam-era NOS US Mil-Specs Olive Drab cotton webbing, and features a vintage-style two-prong metal buckle. The strap slack can either be slid through the buckle, or inserted through the webbing loop.
Note: These are unstructured bags. Neither models are padded and should not be considered as shock-proof protective carrying sleeves for laptop computers or iPads.

To keep your laptop toasty for your up-coming Mars expedition, we have updated our popular LAPTOP HAVERSACK pattern with a cosy New Old Stock wool-blend blanket lining.
Our casual handy shoulder bag keeps the construction specs of its predecessor initially released in 2012. Its versatile size (approx 15” x 10” x 1.5”) allows this denim haversack to house the average contemporary laptop computer or iPad®. An electronic device or book measuring less than 15″ x 10″ will easily slide in the soft woolen blanket inner lining.
A zip-up outer pocket will hold charger, USB, iPod and/or other supplies.
Please note that the shoulder strap is not adjustable, but its length should work for most users with normal expectations.
Our haversack is not shockproof, nor is it waterproof. So if you have an urge to boil it (?) make sure your computer is not inside. This lightweight bag is suitable however for storing and hauling around your portable computer gear while about town or travelling.
The bag is entirely built from recycled or New Old Stock supplies. NOS selvedge denim twills for the shell, NOS wool-blend woven stripe blanket for lining, recycled vintage EU military grey cotton straps for flap closure, and NOS 1966 US Government-issued olive drab webbing for the shoulder strap. The zips are vintage cotton tape NOS 1960s-70s TALON metal zippers.
There are NO overlocked seams, all clean seams inside and out, with a concealed use of the denim selvedge.

CARE:
This denim Laptop Haversack comes pre-soaked/line-dried, ready to use.
Cold wash when needed, gentle cycle with minimal environmentally friendly mild detergent. We recommend turning the bag inside-out to avoid marbling of the denim. Fold the shoulder strap inside the bag to avoid entangling in the washing machine.
Do not use heat dryer to avoid potential excessive shrinkage.

If you are still requesting plastic bags from your local grocery store, like there’s not enough garbage in the ocean, consider this. Wouldn’t you rather get repeatedly complimented by impressed cashiers and handsome strangers on how cool your shopping bag is?…
When it comes to having a permanent tote that will gracefully age in the car trunk, the MF® Jean Tote is the bee’s knees.
 Et tu Bora Bora?.. (Note: This photo taken in 2016 is not representative of the beautiful French Polynesia island.) Our New Old Stock denim tote was initially designed for personal use, around the time California legislated on the banning of complimentary single-use plastic bags in grocery stores. Small batches were subsequently made available for purchase at the MF® HQ, and “Bazar” in Venice. Amusingly, it didn’t take too long for copy cats to get on it, and things went full circle when an unwitting tourist walked into “Bazar” in early 2016, carrying a knock-off specimen allegedly bought in Dubai… The lady was kind enough to let us take a photo ?
 Knock-off of the MF® Jean Tote (2016). So, there it is, officially released. The Mister Freedom® Jean Tote features a playful and simple design, is sturdy, practical, lightweight and stylish, and is not made by unpaid Turkish workers.
Sizes may vary according to the specific width of the NOS selvedge denim twill we use, but proportions are kept, for visual balance and functionality.
This batch is about 16’’ x 16’’ (not counting the webbing handles).
The hand-made debossed leather patches we use on these bags didn’t make it on our Californian Blue Jeans, due to heat-stamping imperfections, which won’t matter much after laundry. Some of these patches actually date back from our 2010 original Lot.54 Californian release!

For those of you trippin’ this summer, here is a new batch of our Type 2 Tripper Bag, 2013 issue. This 2017 Type 2 batch shares all of its 2013 predecessor’s specs, but features contrast stitching instead of tonal.
An original MF® pattern initially released in 2010, the Mister Freedom® Tripper bag has been so far issued as Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3. A few (not-yet documented) early prototype Type 4 in ‘midnight denim’ are also floating around, with limited availability from the MF® Los Angeles HQ.

Seeing the World is great. Traveling, quite the purgatory.
Those who can relate to childhood days when a flying seatmate could purchase a carton of fancy cigarettes while airborne, and smoke what felt like the entire content before hitting the destination tarmac, have lived the good life. Little did we know that it would all be downhill from there.
Anyone with a history of intercontinental cattle herding endured in the past 15 years or so, who has mingle with the elite for whom the concept of a line does not apply, who has been subjected to the dreaded icebreaker “sooo, what do you do?” on the runway, who has elbowed his armrest future through a twelve-hour marathon in a child-size middle seat courtesy of code-share flights operated by Air Klusterfuk, and has experienced that blissful rested feeling on landing when rows of hooligans would sooner eat a bathtub hair ball than take their turn deboarding… has surely taken several steps away from philanthropy thanks to air travel.
Once comfortably encrusted by that coveted middle seat, access to your carry-on bag stowed in the overhead compartment is usually largely compromised by the presence of your sky companion du jour, on a mission to enrich your flight experience with body contact, uncovered sneezing and stimulating idle conversations. Good times. Horror, you left your pneumatic hammer operator-approved NRR33 earplugs in the bag above your head! Darn. I have used and tested a prototype for some time now, eventually settling on a satisfactory pattern, mixing old and new school, low and hi tech. This bag looks like a mini US Army denim barrack bag, but much more practical as a small item storing device.
This unbelievably awesome bag, strikingly functional yet ridiculously good looking, easily transported in the carry-on of your choice, will accompany you as you nonchalantly strut to your assigned seat, where marooned cabin mates await their Wilson. Of course, you had previously carefully loaded your FLY BAG with all the torture-relieving personal effects one needs on a long flight: ear plug, a good book, writing instruments and notebook, eye drops, hand sanitizer, loaded iPod, tea tree toothpicks, inflatable neck pillow, eye mask, surgical mask (guaranteed isolation with one of these), washable slippers, baseball bat…
The MF® FLY BAG shell is made of 2×1 NOS selvedge denim. The bag features a Velcro® closure side pocket made of olive green mil-specs nylon mesh, recycled from authentic New Old Stock US Army field insect bar netting. Store in the first layer of this pocket what you need to have visual access to during the flight. The other section of this pocket, an extra compartment made of P1942 “Frogskin” HBT twill fallen off of a Buzz Rickson’s deuce and a half, will store flat items such as passport/currency/travelers checks, out of sight but for easy access.
The top closure of the bag is of cinch-cord type, featuring a nylon yellow/white paracord, an actual NOS parachute part. The fancy sliding cord lock we have chosen is the patented Black Crater LLC Hyper Bright LED Cord Lock Light, designed in the USA (and, whayagonado, manufactured in China). Familiar to the outdoor enthusiast, this smart little yellow cord lock will help you search the inside of your MF® FLY BAG when cabin lights are out, during that seatmates are snoring and infants are crying moment of peace.
