Mister Freedom® Ranch Blouse & Californian Lot.64 Buckle Back “Okinawa”, made in USA.

Mister Freedom® Ranch Blouse & Californian LOT.64 BB “OKINAWA” edition.
Sportsman catalog, mfsc FW2017
Made in USA

We are giving our original Ranch Blouse and classic Californian 5-pocket Blue Jeans a new handsome skin for Fall 2017, adding the updated version to our catalog of made-in-USA goodies, regrouped under MF® The SPORTSMAN label.
This fabric option is an old mfsc favorite, the mighty “Okinawa 301”, a ‘hairy’ 14 Oz. left-hand twill indigo denim, blend of 20% sugarcane fibers and 80% cotton, with a white/green line selvedge ID.
For the occasion, we also tricked-out our Californian LOT.64 by adding a rear cinch (aka buckle-back), thereby introducing yet another member to the Californian family, the LOT.64 BB “Okinawa” with its midnight blue flasher.

The “Okinawa” denim has enviable fading abilities and will progressively develop a desirable patina overtime, with normal wear/wash cycles.
However, it is less the denim type than the actual wearer that should be credited for amazing fade patterns, as demonstrated by the few jaw-dropping worn specimen of MF® Ranch Blouses sported by friends from Thailand, members of the Pronto Denim gang of workwear aficionados. See some examples below.
Not sure what this fine crew does to those jackets, but the results are incredible! Thank you for the commitment and support, Gentlemen. Don’t hesitate to submit a photo (hi-res) of your worn Ranch Blouse to sales@misterfreedom.com (with your full name for proper credit), we’ll happily add them to this gallery and our Mess of Blues line-up!

The Californian LOT.64 BB “Okinawa” blue jeans come UN-WASHED and are cut so that the measurements match the labeling AFTER an initial cold soak/line dry. A tagged W32 x L34 will shrink to approximately 32 inches x 34 inches after a soak/dry process.
We recommend the usual protocol cold soak/spin dry/line dry/wear briefly when still damp to set creases/line dry until fully dry.
The size that will work for you depends on how you like your jeans to fit. I wear my usual Californian blue jeans W32 in the LOT.64 BB, for a comfortable fit.
The fit pix show a pair of W32, cold-soaked once, worn on/off for about 1 week, with some more shrinkage/stretching down the line.
We recommend getting your usual waist size, although proper fit is a subjective matter and everyone has their own idea of what looks good.
As with all denim twill, shrinkage and stretching will occur for a while and will depend on the wearer’s body, activities and initial fit.
Please refer to sizing chart for approximate raw/soaked measurements.

Mister Freedom® “CALIFORNIAN” Blue Jeans Family, 2010-2016

* Californian Lot.74 (Aqua green paper flasher, 2015): Tapered, our slimmest leg, classic “1960’s youth” vibe. Originally issued in 12.5 Oz. NOS Cone indigo denim, then in NOS 12.5 Oz. wheat denim

 Mister Freedom® CALIFORNIA Blue Jeans, Lot.64 ??
Special 2016 ELECTION Edition, NOS Cone selvedge 16.5 Oz denim
Made in USA, Fall 2016.

Our popular five pocket Californian Lot.64 pattern gets a special Presidential treatment this Fall 2016!
To mark the upcoming 2016 United States Presidential Election, we decided to issue a limited edition Lot.64 “Election” model.

Same fit and cut than its Lot.64 predecessors (the original 13 3/4 Oz. edition, the Uncle Sam issue, the Okinawa “Advisor’ issue, and the Lot.654 hybrid) but a new tough 16.5 Oz. skin, and a few apropos patriotic cosmetic bells and whistles.

The denim we hunted down for the project is our heaviest ounce to date in the Mister Freedom® five-pocket jeans Sportsman department. This limited batch of sturdy indigo denim twill features a white selvedge ID with a red line. It is New Old Stock, milled by Cone Mills in the USA. Beware, this one is a real bleeder…
The pocket bags are cut from limited yardages of 100% cotton New Old Stock vintage canvas, some printed with stars, some with stripes. The limited exclusive run of Californian Lot.64 “Election” we saved for our MF® Los Angeles HQ features pocket bags using both fabrics, a nice colorful patriotic combo of stars and stripes. Now you too can strip in public with confidence.

Our classic orange & yellow stitching combo features red & white thread accents, noticeably in the waist and bottom hems. For the occasion, the usual MF® leather patch is left unbranded and blank. DIY branding touch for those into displaying their political inclination, pet name or favorite band. The untreated natural leather patch is originally pinkish but will tan to a warmer color and get patina overtime.
The fit is our classic Lot.64 silhouette, a straight, slightly tapered leg with a mid to high rise.

In order to generate hate mail (bring it on at sales@misterfreedom.com) we opted for a shorter inseam on this batch, as we had done years ago with the original Californian Lot.54. A deal breaker for many taller individuals, it is also bound to aggravate the BRMC crowd.
We decided to limit the length of our Lot.64 “Election” to keep the ‘spirit’ of old hand-me-down blue jeans, often seen worn (and now found) on the short side, a vintage vibe that ‘repro’ jeans rarely convey.
With five pocket jeans these days, opting for no cuffs or a subtle one-inch turn-up in a descent leg length is quite the refreshing touch. A ‘solid leg’ silhouette might also be more suitable for grown-ups not into the contemporary trend of hipster denim stacking and unnecessary roll-up flashing. But, like political opinions, to each his own!

Well, friends, keep it civil this election season… and may the best candidate for America and its Allies win ✌?
?? ¡Go USA! ??

The Californian LOT.64 “Election” blue jeans are designed and manufactured in California by Mister Freedom®, in collaboration with Sugar Cane Co.

SPECS:

PATTERN:
Inspired by traditional 1950′s-1960’s era blue jeans, traditional fit, slightly tapered leg.

FABRIC:
Heavy weight NOS Cone Mills blue denim, 16.5 Oz., white/red line selvedge ID, sanforized. Milled in the USA.
Pocket bags: Contrasting NOS heavy 100% canvas, printed with patriotic stars and stripes.
Note: This denim croaks (bleeds) quite extensively, and will leave indigo blue stains on other pieces of clothing, furniture, car seats etc… This is temporary yet real.

DETAILS:
* Vintage five-pocket pattern.
* Button fly.
* Selvedge leg outseams.
* Heavy canvas pocket bags, each bag featuring a patriotic print pattern of stars or stripes.
* MF® original white “M” stitch design on rear pockets.
* Unbranded natural cowhide leather MF® patch on rear pocket.
* Twelve types of 100% cotton threads (gauge and color combination) used for construction. Main colors are yellow and orange, with special 2016 Election red and white accents.
* Contrasting and un-matching red and white bottom hem chainstitch.
* Coin pocket with concealed selvedge.
* Selvedge button hole placket.
* Hidden back pocket reinforcement rivets, with top pocket reinforcement zig-zag stitching.
* Unlined rear pockets.
* Original silver-color ‘oxidized’ MF® metal cast waist/fly buttons.
* Unmarked copper riveting for reinforcement.
* Original patriotic MF® paper pocket flasher.
* Made in USA

SIZING/FIT:

The Californian Lot.64 “Election” comes UN-WASHED.

We recommend our usual method of an original cold soak (30mn to 2 hours), occasional hand agitation, spin dry and hang dry. For the gritty, and for an extremely pleasant experience, wear the jeans while still slightly damp, walk around a bit to get them to shape, crease, and adapt to your body. Don’t sit in the white sofa or rub the walls. Hang to fully dry. They will be hard as a rock the next day, and, for yet another pleasant experience, try to put them on and walk… Good luck.

The 16.5 Oz. denim is pretty much sanforized, meaning it hardly noticeably shrinks. These Lot.64 “Election” jeans are true-to-size, meaning that if you are an actual measured waist 32 (wrap a cloth measuring tape around your waistline), you should get a size 32. For a slimmer seat, I went for a W31 on these, as opposed to my usual W32 in the Californian series.

Please refer to sizing chart for approximate raw/soaked measurements. Soaked = 30mn cold soak, spin dry and line dry (i.e. minimal shrinkage). If these measurements do not work for you, things won’t get better by boiling or hard-washing the jeans… You will just ruin your washing machine and aggravate your wife.

lot-64-election

CARE:
Wash your jeans when hygiene dictates and common sense prevails.
Machine wash inside out to avoid marbling. Due to the weight and stiffness of the 16.5Oz. denim, be very careful when laundering using a small home washing machine.
Cold water, gentle cycle, eco-friendly mild detergent and line dry. This denim crocks (bleeds) quite extensively, and will leave indigo blue stains on other pieces of clothing, furniture, car seats etc…
Patina will develop according to activities and frequency of wear.

The Sportsman Fall 2015

To the ocean of five-pocket jeans flooding the creative world of apparel, we will be adding a few MF® drops this Fall.
The first splash is somewhat a reedition of our MF® “Californian” LOT.54 blue jeans, introduced in 2010. We have modified the pattern a bit to blend the specs of the original LOT.54 with the slightly more tapered leg of our popular LOT.64. After an intense board meeting, we all agreed on calling them 654.

Besides the updated silhouette, the rest of the 54’s bells & whistles are still there, from the rear pocket Batman-meets-McD’s “M” stitch, to the combination of 12 different cotton threads, to the  painstakingly debossed leather patch.

Debossing

“Debossing is a team effort. It is fun and I like it.” Cristian Dascalu (2015)

The fabric we chose for this Fall 2015 edition of the LOT.654 is a different batch of the same New Old Stock denim we had scored for the LOT.54, a nice 12 Oz. denim twill from Cone Mills, white/red line selvedge ID. This denim fabric fades nicely overtime.
The pocket bags are made of NOS fabric as well, solid and unassuming white HBT pocketing.
Lot54-1 Lot54-3

The Sportsman “Californian” LOT.654 blue jeans are designed and manufactured in California by Mister Freedom®, in collaboration with Sugar Cane Co.

Please note that the photos of the worn Californian LOT.54 above are for denim evolution reference only. The Californian LOT.654 blue jeans are only available raw, and we do not offer a “Worn Californian LOT.54”  wash. The “CL perso” wash is still not available either. You’d be surprised…

SPECS:

PATTERN:
Inspired by traditional 1950′s-1960’s era blue jeans, traditional fit, slightly tapered leg.

FABRIC:
NOS Cone Mills blue denim, 12 Oz., white/red line selvedge ID, unsanforized. Milled in the USA.
Pocket bags: NOS white HBT fabric.

DETAILS:
* Five pockets, two legs.
* Button fly.
* Selvedge leg outseams…
* Original white “M” stitch design on rear pockets.
* Debossed leather MF® patch on rear pocket.
* Twelve types of 100% cotton threads (gauge and color combination) used for construction. Main colors are yellow and orange.

SIZING/FIT
The Californian LOT.654 comes UN-WASHED and cut so that the measurements match the labeling AFTER an original cold soak/line dry. A tagged W32 x L34 “Californian” actually measures about 34” x 36½” before wash.  It will shrink to approx. 32” x 34” after rinse/dry.

Which size works for you depends on how you like your jeans to fit. I wear a comfortable tagged waist 32 in the Lot.654
We recommend getting your usual waist size, although proper fit is a subjective matter and everyone has their own idea of what looks good.
As with all denim twill, shrinkage and stretching will occur for a while and will depend on the wearer’s body, activities and initial fit.
Although some opt to wear their jeans raw and never wash them, a more practical and sensible option seems to be the cold soak/line dry/wear-when-damp to set creases protocole, and subsequent machine wash when cleaning is required.

Please refer to sizing chart for approximate raw/soaked measurements. Soaked = 30mn cold soak, spin dry and line dry (ie. minimal shrinkage).

CARE:
Wash your jeans when hygiene dictates and common sense prevails.
Machine wash inside out to avoid marbling. Cold water, gentle cycle, eco-friendly mild detergent and line dry. Please note that the debossed graphic on the leather patch will naturally ‘flatten out’ when soaked in water. As devastating as it is, this is normal.
Patina will develop according to activities and frequency of wear.

Californian Lot.64 Mister Freedom 2013

“CALIFORNIAN” Lot.64 Blue Jeans, Made in USA
Mister Freedom® mfsc Sportsman 2013

The “CALIFORNIAN” is back.
We know the World needs another pair of jeans as much as it needs a third international major conflict, but we did it anyways.

Unlike the rest of the denim jeans out there boasting the intimidating “Highest Quality”, “World’s Best Denim” and “Unequaled Craftsmanship”, our Californian is simply a pair of five-pocket jeans cut from good denim, and made in Los Angeles, California.

Just like the fine folks coming up with iPhone OS, we like to fix what’s not broken around here, so, although related to our original Lot.54, the Lot.64 comes with a few modifications:

The denim we are using this time is a Japanese selvedge 13 3/4 Oz. indigo twill, milled on shuttle looms in Japan.
This white/pink selvedge ID denim is both slubby in texture and varies in color slightly. This is due to the contrasting shades of indigo and fluctuating size of the warp yarn. From a certain angle, the raw denim appears to have a subtle vertical stripe pattern or ring. With proper wear and normal washing this denim will develop a very nice patina. Wear and patina will obviously depend on your activities, with varied results according to whether you’ll be riding a desk or a horse.

Unlike the Lot.54, the leather back pocket patch now bears no branding and is left to the discretion of the wearer to customize or leave alone. The original white “M” pocket stitch is still there, keeping back pockets a bit more conspicuous than the Bayeux Tapestry type ornaments I see at times…
The back pockets of the Lot.64 are fully lined with the same fabric used for the pocket bags.
We added a printed cloth waist patch, already introduced on our Buckaroos blue jeans (so now you know what was hiding under the MF branded leather patch 😉 This cloth patch will fade, get dirty from your belt and eventually tear with repeat wear and wash.

Of more relevance to most is the slight change in leg silhouette of the Lot.64. versus Lot.54.
No, we still haven’t fallen to the dark side and made a skinny in a ‘vintage wash‘…
Instead adjusted the pattern so that the leg of the Lot.64 is slightly more sixties-ish, a bit more tapered in the lower part.

We also have decided to still offer the Lot.64 in two different length, not a very common feature these days, when ‘stacking’ is the norm. So, less need to worry about locating a Union Special for a hemming job.
I like the look of original hems and leg shape on old Levi’s 501s. Because several inseams were available, some tended to purchase their appropriately fitting length instead of cuffing or cutting. An old XX with its original hem has the very pleasant leg shape balance than seems to often lack when jeans are altered.
For the Californian, we have made TWO leg patterns, one for inseam 32 and one for inseam 34, and not merely shortened the length. This way the leg retains its shape (slightly ‘ballooning’.) This sounds like a lot of efforts for not much, but those who get it will appreciate. Of course this is all irrelevant if you’re into big cowboy-cuffs.

For pocketing, we are using two different types of New Old Stock fabrics, both indigo woven plaids. Similar in weight but different in pattern. The pocket bags are random and a specific plaid is not available in all waist/inseam. We just used up what was at hand, another “it-is-what-it-is” MF® funky way of doing it.

Designed and made in Los Angeles, California, by Mister Freedom® in collaboration with Sugar Cane Co.

Please note that some of the photos show my own Californian Lot.64, worn on/off for about 3 months, rinsed twice. Production comes RAW, unwashed and NOT distressed.

The “Safe-T-Flash” reflector belt I am wearing in one of the photos  is an original VEB Leather belt, hand crafted by USMC Master Sergeant Villanueva of Vintage Engineer Boots blog fame. Amazing craftsmanship on all his creations, made right were he is currently stationed. See some of them here and contact him directly for custom orders, from guitar straps to belts and wallets…
