Naval Clothing Tailor recap SS2008

NCT-Story-letter

Spring 2008 “MFSC Naval Clothing Tailor”, Tailor-made naval work clothes: The STORY

This collection is the result of a collaboration between MISTER FREEDOM® and SUGAR CANE Co (a branch of “TOYO Enterprises”, renown Japanese manufacturer of high end military & denim replica gear).

MISTER FREEDOM® crafted the original script of an American Merchant Navy sailor in the 1930s (Bos’n C.L., on board of U.S.S. MFSC), who had his clothes custom-made by the local Naval Base Tailor, as he cruised around the world.

The U.S.S. MFSC dropped anchor at many exotic locations during its time. Honolulu, Yokohama, San Francisco, Lorient, Mombasa, Tulear…

Bos’n C.L. embarked on a cruise in 1936, seafaring under the warm climate of the Northern Pacific Ocean, and ended his service in 1946 in the cold waters of the Southern Indian Ocean. This translates in the MFSC Spring/Summer and MFSC Fall/Winter collections.

During his travels and while on leave, our sailor would gather fabric, pattern ideas and samples, and visit the “MFSC Naval Clothing Tailor” of the local port or Naval Base, to have his wardrobe custom tailored to his liking. His design influences were 1910’s to 1940’s Army-Navy issued clothing, American and European work-wear. The requirements of his job while on duty also dictated specific detailing. His personal taste is reflected in the elaboration of each piece.

This “MFSC Naval Clothing Tailor” Collection showcases our sailor’s work dungarees and uniform set, custom-tailored during the course of his 10 years at sea, as found in his old personal naval locker, unopened for 60 years.

Ahoy, now go get ya own Cracker Jacks!

(Note: Christophe Loiron’s concept of this MFSC Collection, although a fiction, is somewhat historically plausible and the resulting detailed design of  each garment, choice of fabrics, trims and styles, reflect this original approach in authenticity and accuracy.)
